Rocket League developer Psyonix is bringing a new more to rocket league. That's right, the developers of the popular car sports game are releasing a new free mode for everyone to play. The crazy part? Well the game mode and new maps start out with no way to score a goal.
A new game mode called dropshot is being added to Rocket League on March 22, the same day as the start of the fourth competitive season for the game. This is just another move in a long line of free upgrades Rocket League is releasing to fans. Instead of charging for DLC like a lot of other companies do.
Anyway, Dropshot is the name of the new game mode. The point of the game is still to score the most points, but in this mode there are no goals. Instead when the ball hits the ground it activates hexagon spaces, and if it hits them a second time they break open and the ball can fall through. The map is divided in half between teams, and you score by making the ball fall through your opponent's side. The longer the ball stays in the air the bigger impact it will have. So instead of just highlighting one hexagon, it'll highlight everyone connected to where it hit.
That means that it's even more important to keep the ball on your opponent's side. This mode will also encourage a lot more juggling and aerial manuevers. It is definitely a change from the regular modes, and the arena it goes down in is hexagon shaped.
So, the new mode in Rocket League comes with completely new rules. It'll definitely take new strategies and skills to succeed in this version of the game. What do you think? Are you excited for Dropshot, or do you think they should have left the Rocket League formula alone? Let me know your thoughts in the comment section below.
