PUBG VP calls out Fortnite

Fortnite just can't stay out of the spotlight. First they make an alleged mistake and have Xbox One and PS4 players play against each other. Then they announce a multiplayer Battle Royale game mode coming that will be free for players. Now it seems that PUBG has something to say about them following the trend they're leading.

PUBG is uncontested as one of the most popular games currently, especially on things like YouTube and Twitch. Of course being so popular there are bound to be imitators. Now with Fortnite's announcement, it looks like they're already seeing some.

In a press release, Chang Han Kim, the Bluehole vice president, said,  "We’ve had an ongoing relationship with Epic Games throughout PUBG’s development as they are the creators of [Unreal Engine 4], the engine we licensed for the game. After listening to the growing feedback from our community and reviewing the gameplay for ourselves, we are concerned that Fortnite may be replicating the experience for which PUBG is known.”

Of course, this could be argued against, since a Battle Royale scenario in and of itself isn't exclusively the PUBG experience. So Fortnite isn't really stepping on PUBGs toes too much. Although he also made sure to add in, “We have also noticed that Epic Games references PUBG in the promotion of Fortnite to their community and in communications with the press. This was never discussed with us and we don’t feel that it’s right.” That is a bit more blatant.

So a press release from Bluehole called out Fortnite for their upcoming multiplayer mode. They are worried Fortnite will take players and viewers away from them. Do you think they are right? Do you think they should have called out Fortnite like this?
