Have you ever wanted to get a game for your friend without having to go and buy a physical copy? Well, it looks like Xbox One will soon have the option to send digital purchases as a gift instead of buying them for yourself. As of today this feature is available to only some of the people in the Xbox Insider program.
Gifting games digitally has been a highly requested feature, and one that Microsoft has been vocal about saying they're listening to fans about. Even back in July Xbox's CVP, Mike Ybarra, assured people that game gifting was coming and did that again at PAX West.
Microsoft has made no official announcement on this feature, but Windows Central has reported that it is available to "...those in the Xbox Insider Program running 1710 preview builds..." The gift option is another option next to the regular purchase, labeled "buy as gift," that when selected will have the game be sent to someone you know after purchasing. They also found out that these gifts can be sent through either email or to a friend's gamertag. However, whatever way they are sent, they will be notified by email that the game was sent.
There is a chance that this update could be rolling out with the Fall OS update, especially if it works as seamlessly as reported. So if you were one of the people looking forward to being able to gift games digitally through your Xbox, it looks like that isn't too far off.
