Harry Potter fans have a lot to look forward to in 2018. After the recent reveal of the Harry Potter game in the style of Pokemon Go and being made by Niantic, fans of the series were ecstatic. Now, a new narrative based game has just been announced.
The two games share one major commonality, they both let you step into the world of Harry Potter. Harry Potter: Wizards Unite lets you travel the real world to explore the magical wizarding world. The just announced Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery lets you explore Hogwarts as your own custom student. The similarities (that we know of) end with the setting for both games.
The story driven experience of Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery will be a new story based in the wizarding world. Jam City, the studio working on it, has said how excited they are to be making the game. The founder of the studio, Chris DeWolf even said, “What an honor it is for Jam City to develop a mobile game for one of the largest and most iconic brands in history. As Harry Potter fanatics ourselves, we have great respect for the millions of people throughout the world who have followed the Harry Potter stories for more than 20 years. This game is a labor of love for our developers and artists, who are dedicated to creating the most magical entertainment and game play experience for everyone who adores J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.”
This is another step forward by Warner Bros. new label, Portkey Games, which is focused on creating games based on J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter. These are the first two games announced by Portkey Games, and both of them are for mobile. However, they did tease that a Harry Potter game could be coming to consoles. What do you think? Are you excited for the two games, or are you worried they won't reflect the wizarding world of Harry Potter enough? I'm on Twitter @spencerhavens, and I'm optimistic that they will stick to the source material while making entertaining games.
